If you are a Standard ACPOHE member (i.e. member of the CSP), successful completion of all 9 modules leads to Technical Membership of ACPOHE.  Also required for Registered Membership via Route 2

Assessment of Fitness For Work Course

This blended learning course, comprising 4 hours of independent learning and a 1 day face to face study day, will provide you with an in depth knowledge of factors that must be considered when undertaking fitness for work assessment. You will leave the course with practical skills on how to safely undertake functional measurements tests and understand how to use the information gained from these functional tests alongside other crucial components of your fitness for work assessment, to provide  a well-balanced and evidence-based report on an individual’s fitness for work.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Discuss basic principles of assessing fitness to work
  • Job demands evaluation
  • Review the ACPOHE guidelines and protocols on Assessing Fitness for Work (AFFW)
  • Appreciate the importance of safety testing prior to functional measurement testing
  • Understand how to perform functional measurement tests
  • Select an appropriate range of functional measurement tests from the ACPOHE Toolkit, appropriate to physical job demands in an occupational setting
  • Review report writing and provide recommendations on an employee’s fitness for work

Suitability

  • Physiotherapists wishing to move into an Occupational Health Setting
  • Physiotherapists wishing to incorporate assessment of fitness for work into their role such as first contact practitioners in primary care of private practice
  • Physiotherapists working in Occupational Health
  • You will gain more from this course if you have already undertaken the Occupational Health Essentials Course

 

Introduction to Office (DSE) Ergonomics  (office settings only) 

4 hour independent learning and 1 day interactive study day (online) or  2 day face to face course.

  • Describe the possible effects on health of DSE use and propose remedial measures
  • Advise a computer user on correct workstation set up and work behaviours
  • Carry out a comprehensive DSE workstation assessment and make recommendations to minimise risk and promote health
  • Identify health issues and concerns relating to use of laptops, hot-desking and home working and advise on remedial action in line with current health and safety legislation
  • Carry out basic anthropometric measurements and advise on office furniture and equipment required to suit and ‘fit’ a user
  • Become familiar with office equipment
  • Learn to clinically reason why to recommend specific equipment.    

 

NEW Remote DSE Assessment Best Practice - online

90 minute workshop via Zoom. 

  • Learn how DSE assessment can be undertaken effectively online.  This course considers practical and technical issues that may arise.
  • Training will be delivered in small groups of four therapists to allow the training to be adapted to suit the needs of the participants.
  • This course will NOT teach participants how to perform a DSE assessment. It is a pre-course requirement that participants are already competent DSE assessors and have completed at least 20 face to face DSE assessments prior to this course. 

 

Introduction to Applied Ergonomics Course* (non-office based settings)

10 hour independent learning and 1 day interactive study day either online or face to face.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the systems approach to ergonomics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of participative ergonomics
  • Understand the evidence linking work factors and Work Relevant Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Demonstrate an understanding of anthropometrics in design and be competent in utilising anthropometrics within assessments
  • Undertake a job analysis
  • Feel competent to identify physical ergonomic risk factors in a work setting.

*Required for Registered Membership via Route 2.

 

Manual Handling: Train the Trainer

1 day course, either face to face or online. Dates available for the online course.

  • Learn how to develop and deliver engaging and evidence based manual handling workshops.

NEW  Vehicle Ergonomics ONLINE Course 

This 2–3 hour independent online learning course includes provision of a new electronic Vehicle Assessment Form to assist you when undertaking these assessments.  This is a highly practical course with plenty of top tips on how best undertake these assessments based on a systems approach to ergonomics.  

On completion of both modules delegates will be able to:

  • Practically undertake an ergonomic vehicle assessment using a systems approach to ergonomics
  • Understand the potential risks associated with vehicle use at work and make recommendations to eliminate or reduce these risks
  • Examine a variety of vehicle types including cars, industrial vehicles, vans and fleet cars
