This week Public Health England launched Every Mind Matters, a clinically assured campaign aimed at helping adults to take care of their own mental health. CSP is backing the campaign, which coincides with World Mental Health Day today, 10 October.
Last month the Samaritans launched their annual Suicide Statistics Report. They’re the only organisation that collates suicide statistics for the UK, its nations, and the Republic of Ireland. Key facts from the report state that total number of suicides in the UK in 2018 was 6,507, an 11.8% increase from the year before.
According to a new quality standard on suicide prevention, published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Health professionals should speak to patients who have suicidal thoughts to find out if they would like friends, family or carers to be involved in their care. CSP welcomes this NICE guidance on suicide prevention and their comments can be seen here.
